Calling all wine connoisseurs-venture into the renowned Jumilla wine growing region, home to many world class wineries. Meet the locals who are passionate about what they do and indulge in a sampling of wine, olive oil and a traditional and tasty tapa. With its Mediterranean climate, limestone soil, low rainfall and abundant sunshine, Jumilla is an ideal location for growing Monastrell, the local grape variety (known as Mourvèdre or Mataro outside Spain). While wine making dates to the Greeks, it wasn't until 1966 that Jumilla was recognized as a Designation of Origin. During the day you will have the opportunity to learn about two of the most recognized wine cellars in the area. First on the agenda is a behind-the-scenes look at Bodega BSI, Jumilla's first winery. Next stop is Bodega Vina Elena, a family-run winery that blends tradition with modern environmentally sustainable products.
