Must-visit Destinations on Your Trip Through Iceland
Northern Europe
There are many regions of the world that feature glaciers and volcanoes that hark back to a much different time when the Earth's landscape was in its infancy. Today, European cruises give travelers the opportunity to step back in history to see the true beauty of these marvels.
If you're interested in touring the exotic landscape of Northern Europe, there's no better way to do so than on a Europe cruise. On the deck of a comfortable, expansive ship, you can explore all of the beauty of Iceland, a country steeped in wonder and beauty. While you're docked, you'll also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with what Mother Nature has to offer in this vast landscape. Here are some must-see sites as you explore this region of Europe.
Hallgrimskirkja Tower
If you want to see as much of Iceland as you can while you're on your European cruise, you might want to consider climbing to the top of Hallgrimskirkja Tower. This iconic architectural marvel is approximately 73 meters high and can give you the perfect view of the landscape for miles as you stand at the top. Originally, the tower was constructed to hold more than a thousand people for worship. It was finished and sanctioned around 1986, according to the official Hallgrimskirkja website, and continues to be a popular destination for visitors today.
Reykjavík
This city is another place you must check out while you're on your Europe cruise vacation. Reykjavík is the perfect location to get in touch with Icelandic culture, as well as explore some of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. According to the city's official website, there are several day tours you can sign up for to explore volcanoes and glaciers around Reykjavík. If you aren't in the mood to hike, don't fret - there's plenty of wining, dining and shopping to be done in the city as well.
Iceland Waterfalls
Waterfalls are some of the most beautiful natural splendors to see while you're visiting Iceland. The country is home to several waterfalls, many of which are deemed the strongest in Europe, according to World-of-Waterfalls.com. The Westfjords are perhaps the most popular, although there are many that make for great photo opportunities around Reykjavík as well. While you may have to get to some of these falls by four-wheeler, it's worth the trip if you're going to be at port for a few days.
