Port Denarau is your gateway to Fiji

The ports in Fiji may not be as famous as many of the others that you'll visit on your Australia and New Zealand cruise, but they'll likely be among the most memorable. That's definitely true for Port Denarau, a magnificent harbor on Viti Levu, the largest island in Fiji. Denarau serves as an excellent gateway into the many wonderful experiences that Fiji has to offer.

One of the best things about Denarau is that it's very close to several of the smaller islands in the Fijian chain. For example, you'll be able to take a catamaran over to the uninhabited island of Mala Mala for a day of sand, swimming and sunbathing. There's also a day trip to the nearby Beachcomber Island, as well as a number of excursions that include sailboat rides around the various islands.

For those who want a more cultural experience, there are plenty of options as well. Visit the Kalevu Cultural Center for an introduction to traditional Fijian dances and ceremonies, including firewalking.

If you're a golfer, this is the perfect port of call, as you'll have a chance to book a round at the Denarau Golf and Racket Club, which offers a challenging course with sweeping views of the island and coast.
