Explore history and culture in Portimao, Portugal
European Cruise Destinations
The town of Portimao in Portugal is a beautiful port of call that offers a wide variety of European shore excursions for travelers of all interests.
Portimao is the main city in Portugal's Algarve region, which is renowned the world over for its magnificent cliffs and coastline. You'll be able to experience all of this beauty on the tour that travels through Monchique, the Algarve Mountains and the seaside village of Alvor, which has recently become a major resort destination. This is a relaxing journey that will give you an opportunity to simply marvel at the astonishing beauty of both the architecture and natural landscapes of Portugal.
If you're more interested in history, you'll want to book the tour for the nearby city of Lagos, which was once home to Prince Henry the Navigator. Henry was influential in kicking off the wave of world exploration in the 15th century, and you'll be able to see all the important sites on this excursion.
An alternative option is a trip to the ruins of Silves, which was at one point one of Portugal's most bustling cities. Now, you'll be able to tour the remains of a Moorish castle and cathedral, or pay a visit to a local museum. You should be in good physical condition for this tour, however, as it involves extensive walking.
