Anzac Cove, Turkey
Anzac Cove (Anzak Koyu) on Turkey’s Gallipoli peninsula is famous as the site at which World War I Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on April 25, 1915. Just 600 metres long, the cove is bounded by the headlands of Ari Burnu and Little Ari Burnu – Hell Spit.
Gallipoli
The beach at Anzac Cove became the main Antipodean troop base during the Battle of Gallipoli, housing a gigantic supply dump, two field hospitals, four floating jetties (later replaced by Watson’s Pier), and three wireless radio stations – all within range of Turkish artillery. Despite the shelling, ANZAC Cove was a popular beach.
