Magdalene Fjord, Spitsbergen (Scenic Cruising)
Norway's Magdalenefjord is located on the northwest coast of the island of Spitsbergen. Known for its great beauty, with a spectacular surround of rugged mountain peaks and glaciers. Magdalenefjord extends about eight kilometers inland, and back in Norway's whaling period, it was regarded as one of the best harbors in the area. During the 1600's, several hundred whaling boats frequented this area each summer. Most settlers were Russian, Dutch and Norwegian, with many European countries also represented.
Waggonway Glacier
This glacier stretches directly down into the fjord, creating a spectacular scenic photo opportunity.
Gravneset
Along the fjord, this burial site holds the graves and a memorial raised by the Norwegian State for the "Svalbard Travelers 1600-1750" -- sometimes visible from the ship.
Whale Watching
Migrating whales are an amazing sight to see and is an occasional occurrence for those fortunate to spot them.
