Portoferraio
Hub to this island's transportation system, it's also where Victor Hugo lived as a boy, and where Napoleon spent his exile. The old town is full of character, lined with cafés, stepped alleyways and old churches.
Villa dei Mulini
This 17th-century villa is where the exiled Napoleon resided. It's situated on the highest point of the old quarter with an excellent vantage point of the bay. Inside, there remains the emperor's library and other pieces from the period.
Piazza Gramsci
This picturesque little tree-shaded piazza is perched above the old port and affords romantic views as well as a café.
