St. John's, Newfoundland
Cradled in a harbor carved from granite, St. John's unveils a rugged and beautiful coastline famous for its plentiful cod fishing and maritime heritage. Newfoundlanders consider their island -- 10th largest in the world -- to be the "senior colony" of the British Empire, since it was discovered only five years after Columbus first sailed. Its fascinating ties to the past are everywhere.
The Geo-Centre
Often referred to as the "Galapagos of Geology," Newfoundland's geological museum and interpretation center tells the story of its ancient volcanoes, glaciers, icebergs, and rocks from the center of the earth.
Signal Hill
Signal Hill, at the mouth of the harbor, is the site of Cabot Tower, which was built to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's voyage of discovery.
Witless Bay
