Dartmouth, Great Britain
This quaint fishing port lies on the banks of the River Dart, where you can stroll along streets lined with 17th-century architecture, such as the renowned Butterwalk. Dartmouth is also a gateway to exploring Devon County, where famed writer Agatha Christie made her home.
This 14th-century fortress once protected the town of Dartmouth from its rocky overlook at the entrance of the Dart Estuary. Today the castle offers historic displays within its walls as well as breathtaking views of the waterway from its tower.
Berry Pomeroy Castle
Not far from the River Dart, a wooded lane leads to the Pomeroy family’s 15th-century castle. A separate mansion was built and abandoned within the unusual estate centuries later, and today the property is said to be haunted by several Pomeroy ghosts.
In Devon County you’ll find the historic Barbican area of Plymouth, where centuries-old structures still stand near Sutton Harbour. Visit the famous Mayflower Steps, which commemorate the departure point of the Pilgrims’ epic voyage aboard the Mayflower to America.
