Ports of Call

Lifou, Loyalty Islands

The largest of New Caledonia’s Loyalty Islands, Lifou has one of the most diverse landscapes in the South Pacific, encompassing everything from superb white-sand beaches and coral reefs teeming with brightly colored fish, to dense forests and extraordinary limestone caves.

Culture

Lifou’s friendly people are concentrated in the island’s main settlement on the east coast. Its principal attraction is a magnificent beach, but if you’re in port on a Wednesday or Friday before 11am, you can browse for local wares at the open-air market opposite the town hall.

Cliffs of Jokin

Travel across the island to see the dramatic cliffs of Jokin. Lifou Island is an ancient coral atoll that has become raised high above sea level over time. The towering cliffs once formed the walls of the island's barrier reef.
