Tour Overview
Your tour begins as you board a high-speed catamaran for a scenic 45-minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Along the way, you'll witness spectacular views of waterfalls and ice-sculpted peaks as your guide points out marine wildlife.
Upon arrival in Haines, you'll board a motorcoach and follow the route of the Chilkoot River. Nestled between rugged glaciers and snowcapped mountains, the fertile Chilkoot Valley is home to generations of brown bears, bald eagles, mountain goats, river otters and salmon. Inquisitive visitors, bird watchers and photographers are amazed by the abundance of migratory and resident birds. A stop at Deer Rock allows for a stunning photo opportunity and a fascinating depiction of Tlingit Indian legends and history by your guide.
The next stop is a fish weir where you'll watch a technician count migrating salmon as they return. You'll make your way to Chilkoot Lake, where you'll set up powerful spotting scopes for close-up views of mountain goats in alpine meadows, bears along the river and nesting eagles. You can actually take photos through the scopes. An invigorating walk beneath magnificent trees and through ancient muskeg invites you to experience the living tapestry within the rainforest.
Your tour concludes with a narrated drive through historic Fort Seward and downtown Haines, where you'll enjoy a picnic-style lunch before returning to Skagway via ferry.
