Tour Overview
Your excursion begins at the pier where you'll board your air-conditioned motorcoach for the drive to Wat Krom, the Buddhist temple at the base of Sihanouk Mountain. Its name is a literal description of its location as "Wat" means temple and "Krom" means "lower." Explore the temple, which features excellent views of the sea and a small chapel dedicated to Ya-Mao, a local deity.
Continue past Victory Hill and Independence Square where you'll stop for a photo opportunity at the War Memorial, commemorating Cambodia's war dead.
Next, stop at Sihanoukville's bustling marketplace, Psar Lu Market. Browse the many stalls with their colorful displays of fish and shellfish, poultry, palm sugar, tropical fruits, flowers and crafts.
Drive to a typical Khmer village. You'll see a typical house and meet a family. Then you'll visit a school where you'll meet the children and observe the activities in the kindergarten. The kids are enchanting and you may want to bring some small gifts to share with the children.
Enjoy refreshments before re-boarding your motorcoach for the return route to the port and your cruise ship.
Special Notes
Local buses from Phnom Penh are used for tour transportation; quality and style will vary. Although air-conditioned, the standard is not the same as North Americans may be accustomed. Tour guides are generally drawn from Phnom Penh; they have limited English skills, but their local knowledge, willingness, friendliness, and enthusiasm deserves special merit.
