Tour Overview
Board your motorcoach and travel along the shoreline for views of Suomenlinna Fortress. Hailed as the "Gibraltar of the North," this UNESCO World Heritage Site occupies a series of rocky skerries in Helsinki Bay. Continue past the Market Place and the Presidential Palace before venturing into woodlands on the approximately .75-hour drive to Savijärvi Farm.
Originally a large dairy farm, this country manor in the Sipoo District has become famed for its horse breeding operation. The farm produces horses for show jumping as well as carriage horses for competition. Tour the farm before watching a horse presentation. Enjoy refreshments including homemade cakes and seasonal berries.
Continue to Porvoo, Finland's second oldest city. Founded in 1346, Porvoo is one of six medieval towns mentioned in 14th century manuscripts. Your walking tour explores the historic Old Town, which was preserved from redevelopment in the 19th century. The Old Town is a district of narrow medieval lanes, cobbled streets and timbered houses. At the center of the Old Town stands Porvoo Cathedral, founded in the 14th century. Your tour also passes Town Hall. Porvoo Old Bridge provides an excellent panorama of the Old Town. The red and yellow warehouses along the river have been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy some free time for independent exploration and shopping.
Board your motorcoach for the return trip to Helsinki. Drive down Mannerheim Street, Helsinki's main thoroughfare, passing the Olympic Stadium, Opera House, Finlandia Hall, National Museum, Parliament and Kiasma ? Helsinki's Museum of Contemporary Art. Enjoy free time to explore Senate Square. The city's central plaza is home to the Lutheran St. Nicholas Cathedral, Helsinki University and the National Library. The square's fine, 19th century neoclassical buildings are a legacy of Finland's Tsarist Era.
At the end of your tour, you have the option (morning departures only) of remaining in town for independent sightseeing and shopping. You are then responsible for your return to ship.
