Your excursion begins at the pier where you'll board your motorcoach and drive to the hilltop village of Monte. Pass Terreiro da Luta, traveling a winding mountain road lined with eucalyptus and mimosa trees to Poiso Pass.

This lookout point stands some 4,300 feet above sea level and offers views of the island's mountain interior. Marvel at its highest peak. You'll drive to the end of the road, which stops at the summit of Pico de Arieiro, which stands 5,900 feet above sea level and offers sweeping views of the island.

Continue to Santo do Serra and Camoes Pequeno en route to Funchal. At Camoes Pequeno, enjoy a scenic overlook of Machico, a small resort town that claims to have the island's first settlers from the 15th century.

In the village of Santo do Serra, you'll be served tea or coffee accompanied by a slice of traditional Madeira cake at Enotel do Santo restaurant.

Next, visit The Blandy Wine Lodge. Established in 1811, Blandy's is one of the oldest and most respected producers of Madeira. Visit the wine museum and view its collection of wine memorabilia including letters from Winston Churchill. Learn how the four different types of Madeira wine are vinified and sample two varieties. You'll have an opportunity to purchase bottles of wine before returning back to your ship.
