Get ready for an active journey through the rainforests of Panama. Travel to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort and take an aerial tram ride through the rainforest canopy. Board your air-conditioned transportation for the approximately 60-minute drive to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Located on the banks of the Chagres River and the Panama Canal, the resort has 340 acres of pools, restaurants and gardens. This deluxe resort is located just 17 miles from downtown Panama City, providing all the comforts of the city in the middle of the jungle. Gamboa Resort lies in the heart of Soberania National Park. Large tracts of lowland tropical rainforests that nourish thriving plants and harbor enchanting animal populations surround the resort. Panama Canal rainforests are some of the most accessible green zones in the world. With over 50,000 acres of pristine rainforest, this natural gem hosts an incredible 105 species of mammals, 525 species of birds and 124 species of reptiles and amphibians.
The Panama Canal requires a vast rainforest watershed to feed water to its lock system, which uses millions of gallons each day. Since the rainforests are so important to the national economy, the Canal authorities actively preserve the natural resources, providing pristine green areas and excellent photo opportunities. Enjoy ample time to explore the many exhibits devoted to the forest ecosystem, including the orchid garden, butterfly display, and serpentarium.
After exploring the rainforest from the ground, board your aerial tram for the approximately 20-minute ascent through the forest canopy as your guide provides a narrated tour. At the summit, take an optional walk to the observation platform for views of the jungle and the canal.
