Oman is a heady mixture of many cultures, taking its influence from the Portuguese who lived here in the 16th century, East Africa and Islamic culture. On this exhilarating half day tour you will have a chance to experience the sights and sounds of this city as well as learn more about it's colorful heritage.
The fun starts when you meet your guide and driver at the wharf for a short drive to the bustling Muttrah Souk, a traditional market. You will have the chance to stroll through the crowded alleyways stopping to look at the goods on offer. Bargain with the traders for exotic spices, silverware, Omani clothing and handicrafts before loading yourself and your bags back on the bus.
As you tour the city, and the elegant Shati al Qurum district, you will stop outside the Al Alam Palace to take photographs. The official residence of Sultan Qaboos al Said is a blend of modern and classic Islamic architecture, flanked by two 16th century Portuguese forts.
Then it's time to examine Oman's history up close with visits to two private museums. First you will tour Bait al Zubair, which is home to a collection of weaponry and art before heading to the Bait Al Adam Museum. Located in a private residence, this small family museum also chronicles Omani life and history, with a collection of family memorabilia that includes prized displays of firearms, photographs, jewelry and art. After the tour, you have the opportunity to meet the family who own the museum and enjoy Arabian coffee and dates, as you learn more about life in Oman, from the Eid Festival to Ramadan.
Your tour ends with a drive through Oman, and along the charming harbor corniche, as you head back to your ship laden with gifts and new memories.
