Tour Overview

Board your motorcoach and travel along the north shore to the small village of Ribeira Brava, which perches along a steep canyon bisecting the island. Enjoy a brief tour of the village before continuing to São Vicente. This village offers views of Madeira's famous sea cliffs - the island boasts the second highest sea cliff in the world, enjoy a lunch of island specialties at this village. Drive to Porto Moniz, renowned for its tide pools. Along the way drink in views of cliffs, waterfalls and small valleys, each with its own microclimate.

After your visit to Porto Moniz, your route ascends to the Paul da Serra. Often described as "The Roof of Madeira," this central plateau is nearly 5000 feet above sea level and features windswept moors. The plateau ends in a dramatic escarpment on the southwest coast. Descend to Calheta and a fertile coastal strip that produces sugar cane, bananas and grapes.

In Calheta, take a tour of the Engenho da Calheta distillery. Here white rum is produced from the island's sugar cane. Learn how rum is distilled and sample of poncha, an island beverage made with rum and honey. Your tasting is accompanied by a slice of traditional Madeira cake.

Following your tour, board your motorcoach for the return trip to Funchal.
