Board your air conditioned motorcoach, and get ready for a day long journey exploring one of Australia's great treasures: Litchfield National Park.
Travel approximately two hours south from Darwin past abandoned WWII airstrips and the town of Batchelor for the approximately one hour journey through the Litchfield National Park. Ascend the rocky Tabletop Range where dry woodlands and forests dominate the huge sandstone plateau. Arrive at Litchfield National Park. This fascinating, uniquely beautiful area was originally the home of the Aboriginal Wagait people.
Travel through the park to the famous Termite Mounds. One of Litchfield's unique sights, this collection of hundreds of termite mounds standing over six feet high in a wide swathe of empty ground has the appearance of a graveyard. The mounds are like enormous magnetic compasses with their thin edges pointing north south and broad backs east west, minimizing their exposure to the sun. This ingenious design keeps the mounds cool for the termites inside.
After exploring the giant Termite Mounds reboard your coach for a well deserved lunch.
A casual buffet lunch is served at the Litchfield Café. After lunch, drive to Wangi Falls. The falls flow into a large, easily accessible swimming hole surrounded by lush monsoonal rain forest making them Litchfield National Park's most popular attraction. Depending on the weather, you may be able to swim at the base of the falls.
