Climb into your 4WD vehicle for an exhilarating safari into the lush interior of Bora Bora that includes informative narration on the island's history.
Begin at Vaitape on the west coast. Here you'll find the main wharf and a large marketplace selling souvenirs. Your rugged vehicle ascends Pahonu Hill for captivating views of the harbor and Matira Beach.
Stop for refreshments along the way then travel to a pearl boutique where you will find the famous Polynesian pearls, as well as an exhibit of photographs and books on these South Seas treasures. The black pearls of French Polynesia are quite famous for their quality and beauty, and Tahiti and the surrounding islands are the leading black pearl exporters in the entire world.
Continue on your journey and stop at naval gun sites from WWII. The "Guns of Bora Bora" have a fascinating history and you will see the rusty, seven inch naval cannons over 20 feet long on their swivel bases, perched on various strategic points.
From here, travel the island's north shore to the lush Faanui Valley. Climb to a mountain plantation, where a colorful burst of fruit and flower fields give way to spectacular views of sparkling Faanui Bay.
