Red eyed tree frog, Costa Rica

You'll have a chance to partake in all kinds of adventures while on a Caribbean cruise, but perhaps no destination offers quite as much variety as Costa Rica.
After disembarking in Puntarenas, you'll have a plethora of options at your fingertips. If you're interested in soaking up the local culture, you'll definitely want to head to the nearby city of San Jose, where you'll have a chance to shop and sample some local cuisine. Be sure to visit the National Theater, which many believe to be the most beautiful building on the island.
San Jose is a good representation of city life in Costa Rica, but the country is worth visiting as well. Pay a visit to the village of Sarachi in order to see local handcrafted work, or tour a coffee plantation to learn about the important role that the crop has had in the country's history.
Of course, Costa Rica is also a top adventure destination. Ziplining through a rainforest canopy is one of the more memorable Caribbean shore excursions that are offered here, but it's far from the only one. Rafting down a rainforest river is definitely an adventure, but it's relaxing enough that you'll be able to take in the scenery as well.
